Electronics Measurement Using the VOM
The VOM is the "bread and butter" test instrument of the electronics technician. This module demonstrates the purpose, function and use of the VOM and offers the learner practice in calculating current, voltage and resistance in parallel and series circuits. The function of the VOM is compared to the vacuum tube voltmeter (VTVM) and the digital voltmeter (DVM).
Solid State Motor Controls
This module focuses on motor controls, one of the more common applications of solid state electronic devices. Open and closed loop motor control systems are illustrated in detail, as are the characteristics and functions of stepper motor. This tape is of particular importance to those electronic technicians/technologists who are involved with solid state motor controls on a daily basis.
Transistor Amplifiers
This module begins with common sense safety precautions to follow when working with transistor amplifiers. Include the function of transistors in RC coupling, transformer coupling and DC coupling amplifying chains. You will be shown how to discriminate between standard and non-standard Class A biased transistor amplifiers, and to describe the function of Class A, B and C transistor amplifiers. The learner is introduced to oscillators and practices as a way to identify, measure and correct the effects of negative oscillation.
Transistor Switches
The module outlines the function of the transistor as a bistable switch with detailed explanations of the load line, maximum power line, cutoff state, full conduction state, saturation, region, bi- stable switching transistor and multivibrator circuits. The fabrication and function of logic gates and decoder circuits is also illustrated and explained in detail.
