Basic Knitting
Instructor: Maggie Righetti, School of Knitting. An introductory course for the novice, beginning with a brief history of knitting, then choosing yarn and needles, making a slip loop and casting on. Knit, purl, garter and stockinette stitch are demonstrated in the European and American methods for lefties and righties, followed by adding new yarn and concluding with binding off. Bead Knitting
In bead knitting, the entire piece is constructed with beads as opposed to beaded knitting where beads embellish the surface of the knitted item. You'll be able to make a beautiful beaded bag, even if you've never knitted before. After a brief history and discussion on materials and supplies, Alice will teach you basic knitting techniques and then bead knitting stitches. After you practice stringing beads and knitting, you will learn how to read a chart (enclosed) and string your beads following the chart. Then the fun begins as you knit the purse project. This tape explains the things that a knitter will need to know to make a garment.
Knit & Crochet Finishing
Learn how to knit seams: stockinette stitch, reverse stockinette, garter stitch, shoulder seams. Cut to shorten or lengthen. Add pockets, kitchner stitch. Cut bottonholes. Set in sleeve. Picking up edge and neck stitches. Crochet edge and buttonholes. Learn to crochet seams, slip stitch, weaving straight seams, shoulders, cross stitch.
Knit-Weave Technique
Using this fascinating process, you can knit colorful garments with added texture and color without lots of bobbins or floats across the back of the work. You do this be dropping stitches and then needleweaving on the "ladder" created by the dropped stitches. Its easy, and the results are spectacular! To learn the basic process you will work a small swatch. Then you will learn how to plan and design a garment of your favorite style, using this unusual process. Once you've competed your knit-weave pieces, its on to garment construction and finishing tips. In this technique, the pieces are knitted as rectangles and then cut and sewn together. You will need a sewing machine (with a zig zag stitch) or a serger to complete your sweater. It is assumed that you know basic knitting skills (cast-on, knit stockinette stitch, pick up stitches along the edge of rows and stitches, and bind-off). You don't do increasing or decreasing with this process.

Tapestry Crochet
This crochet technique will enable you to crochet a two or more color motif with relative ease. It's fun & deceptively easy to do, even if you've never crocheted before. And if you have, you be delighted and inspired with this crochet technique. Tapestry Crochet is also known as "Jacquard", "Mosaic", or "Hard Crochet". It enables the crafts person to create unique & sturdy clothing accessories, baskets and intricate wall hangings with only a few dollars worth of equipment. It differs from ordinary crochet in its texture, tension & how colors are worked. While one yard is being worked, another yarn is carried as a core. You will be taught the basics of tapestry crochet while making a two color eyeglass case. By increasing the number of stitches, these techniques can be used to crochet a change purse, shoulder bag or pillow.
